Commentary -
Thats it from the 2 of us, Shashank and Srivathsa. Hope you enjoyed the coverage, but don't go too far, as we have a big game coming up very shortly. Stay locked......
Puttick is also the Man of the Match: Feels really good to get some runs under the belt. The boys responded brilliantly, we didn't have much of a rest but tremendous effort from the guys. Charl Langeveldt is being monitored constantly, hopefully he will be available for us soon. Looking forward to the next round now.
Cumming: Very dissapointed with our effort today. Puttick just took the game away from us, but the 3 run outs didn't help our cause. We are looking forward to going to Bangalore now and looking to put up a better show, it is a do or die game for us and hopefully we will end up on the right side of the result.
Cape Cobras have won this game emphatically, beating the Otago Volts by 54 runs, and have become the first team in the competition to book a slot in the next round. The Volts were never really in the hunt, and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Some abysmal running cost them 3 wickets and they have surrendered meekly. They will need to do a lot of soul searching if they are to put up some resistance against the Royal Challengers in their next match on Monday. Join us for the presentation in a couple of minutes......

Otago would be shell shocked with this onslaught from the Cape Cobras. Having inserted them in, they would have looked for some early wickets, but Puttick led from the front scoring a captain's knock, an unbeaten 104. Gibbs and Davids fell when the score was just 38, but Duminy chipped in once again, proving to be the thorn in the opposition's flesh, scoring a brisk 32. But the impetus of the innings was given by Justin Ontong who came in and smashed the ball to all corners of the park, coming up with a cameo of 39 in just 14 balls to end on a high. Looks like the Cobras have got to a match winning total. Brendon McCullum and Aaron Redmond should get the Volts off to a blinder if they are to even get close to this total. Join us in 10 minutes for the run-chase...

Teams:
Otago (Playing XI): Brendon McCullum, Aaron Redmond, Hamish Rutherford, Craig Cumming(c), Neil Broom, Nathan McCullum, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Ian Butler, Derek de Boorder(w), Warren McSkimming, Neil Wagner
Cape Cobras (Playing XI): Andrew Puttick(c), Herschelle Gibbs, Henry Davids, Jean-Paul Duminy, Justin Lee Ontong, Ryan Canning(w), Stiaan van Zyl, Vernon Philander, Rory Kleinveldt, Claude Henderson, Monde Zondeki
Puttick: We would have liked to bat as well. It is up to the rest of us to perform now. The wicket looks similar to the ones back home and we expect a high scoring game.
Cumming: We are pleased to finally get on the field and perform after spending two days in the hotel. We are confident of doing well. It is about scoring the most runs and that's what counts in Cricket.
Otago have won the toss and elected to field
Dmitri Mascarenhas: I went and had a season out in the NZ and really enjoyed it. It will be an awesome tournament, the boys are excited to play here. We are the underdogs, because people do not know much about us. It is hard to look beyond the 3 IPL teams, but T20 format is such that any team can win on the day.
Ian Butler: It seems a long while ago when we qualified for this tournament. It is the start of exciting times for us. Our team is suited to the T20 format, we bat deep and also we have a good bowling attack.
Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the match between the Cape Cobras and the Otago Volts. The Cobras are on a high after upsetting the Royal Challengers in the opening game of the CL. The Otago Volts are a bit of an unknown quantity, so today it gives everyone an opportunity to have a first look at them...
by Saurabh Somani
Ground Reality: After Bangalore and Delhi, the T20 champions extravaganza moves to its third venue - Hyderabad. This might turn out to be the least run-friendly venue in the series, which will be good news for the bowlers on either side. However, the bowlers can expect no assistance from the conditions, with the day forecast to be only partly cloudy. However, both teams can expect to enjoy the newly re-done stadium which boasts of all state-of-the-art facilities.
Team News:
Otago: After the way the first match went down to the wire, people would be justified in thinking that this one isn't likely to since Otago would not pose much of a threat. However, a closer look at the side reveals big hitters such as Brendon McCullum and Dimitri Mascarenhas, and competent bowlers such as Nathan McCullum, Ian Butler and the interestingly named Warren McSkimming. As the first two days have already shown us, Twenty20 is a fickle game that can change in the matter of a few minutes. And if McCullum or Mascarenhas go beserk for those few moments, Otago will be very hard to stop indeed. They have a few known faces, but also have the luxury of knowing that their back-up cast will be new to all other teams in the fray, and that that with New Zealand's traditional penchant for always punching above its perceived weight, the team can be expected to deliver when it matters.
Cobras: They surprised quite a few people by not only knocking down Bangalore on their own turf, but by the manner in which they chased what everyone thought was a formidable target. JP Duminy showed that in Twenty20 cricket, one batsman (or bowler for that matter) can change the course of the game within the space of a few overs. Duminy is a high-quality batsman, but the Cobras would still do well not to expect him to repeat his Thursday night heroics everytime. The cobras need to win this match for a smooth passage into the second phase, and they will look to Herschelle Gibbs to contribute at the top of the order. They have suffered a massive blow with the injury to Charl Langeveldt - one of the leading exponents of the art of T20 bowling in the world - but they cannot afford to dwell on that. The good thing from their point of view is, if they can win without Langeveldt, they will have his services available for the second phase of the tournament and be stronger for it.
Group Situation:
The Cobras narrow win over Bangalore has meant that the group is still wide open. To ensure qualification what the Cobras need to do is win against Otago. If they lose to Otago, they will have to wait on the Bangalore-Otago result to know if they can make it to the second stage. Since their win against Bangalore was narrow, a loss to Otago will almost certainly give them a negative net run rate, and if Bangalore then beat Otago, it will come down to a battle of net run rates, where the Cobras wouldn't be favourably placed. For Otago, the equation is simple - they should aim to win big, so that even if they lose to Bangalore, they don't suffer on net run rates.
Numbers Game:
2 - JP Duminy's position in the chart for the highest scores by Cobra batsmen. Duminy's 99 not out - one of the best Twenty20 knocks - is the second highest for the Cobras. The first spot goes to an equally astonishing 112 not out off 48 balls by Henry Davids.
8 - Brendon McCullum's position in the run charts for Otago. The fairly low position can be explained by the fact that McCullum has played just 6 matches for the team.
Soundbytes:
"If you get one batsman to play throughout the innings, then you can chase any target." - Andrew Puttick, the Cobras captain after JP Duminy's knock against Bangalore.
"We've got a bit to prove and are probably the underdog from everyone else's point of view. But we've got other ideas." - Greg Todd, a left-handed top-order batsman for Otago.
Teams:
Otago (From): Aaron Redmond, Brendon McCullum(w), Craig Cumming(c), Hamish Rutherford, Neil Broom, Nathan McCullum, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Warren McSkimming, James McMillan, Nick Beard, Ian Butler, Greg Todd, Derek de Boorder, Matt Harvie, Neil Wagner
Cape Cobras (From): Andrew Puttick(c), Herschelle Gibbs, Henry Davids, Jean-Paul Duminy, Justin Lee Ontong, Ryan Canning(w), Rory Kleinveldt, Vernon Philander, Claude Henderson, Monde Zondeki, Charl Langeveldt, Derek Brand, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Richard Levi, Francois Plaatjies
