Commentary -
Siddle and Johnson carry Mike Hussey on their shoulders for a lap of honor across the SCG. Deservingly so for the great man. On that note, we end our coverage of the Test summer of Australia. Do join us for the 1st ODI between these two teams on the 11th of January at the MCG. For now, cheers and bye..
Presentations:
Clarke: We had to work hard throughout the Test match. Winning the toss and bowling first is not a great idea at the SCG. But we have had 4 quality seamers who were well supported by Nathan Lyon. It is tough to lose two fab players in Ponting and Hussey during a season. It has been a great honour to play with Mike, we will always remember him. We would have loved to win all 6 Tests but it was disappointing to lose the Test against South Africa at Perth. But, we did show that we had the quality to match up with the best in the game. 2013 is the year for Australian cricket and we have started on a winning note.
Michael Clarke is the MoS for his outstanding batting
Mahela Jayawardene: It has been fantastic, first time we were playing the Boxing Day and New Year Tests, the boys were looking forward to it. We played some great cricket, we will learn a lot from this experience. Maybe a target around 200 was ideal. Herath and Dilly bowled well, there was nothing for the pacers. There have been some positives, we need to invest in our youngsters. As long as they learn from such exposures, Sri Lankan cricket will be in steady hands.
Bird: Thanks for all the support out here at the SCG. It has been a busy 18 months, great feeling to be celebrating a series win with the team. To do so in front of the family and friends is great. It was nice to stick around and help Wade complete his ton.
Jackson Bird is the MoM for his 7 wickets.
Warner: We will miss Hussey a lot, he has been a man of perfection. The youngsters will have greater responsibilities now. I was happy with the way I batted, I felt that I could play very positively. We had a great summer, we perhaps had just one bad day in the series against South Africa which cost us the series. I am being given a couple of ODIs off, I would like to re-focus ahead of the remaining ODIs and the Indian tour. Nice to send off Huss with a clean sweep against Lanka.
Michael Hussey's kids join him in the centre. He poses with them for the cameras.
Hussey: I am very delighted to finish on the winning note. I did not want to bat at all, amazing to be a part of the winning finish. SCG is probably one of my top 3 grounds. I will miss wearing the Baggy Green, I will miss all the boys in the dressing room. I would love to be remembered as a good team man. Thanks to the fans and all our supporters, Australia are going in the right direction and I hope you do well in India and in the Ashes. I'll be watching the team all along.
The Sri lankan players shake hands with Hussey, who ends a superb Test career, he finishes with a Test avearge of more than 50, Australia end on a winning note while Sri Lanka's search for an elusive Test win in Australia continues..
